Silvano Campeggi

Silvano Campeggi (known as “Nano”) was born in 1923. He is one of the protagonists of the global scenario of the 20th century. Not only is he poster designer for Metro Goldwyn Mayer, he is also a great painter and artist. Campeggi studied at the Art Institution of Porta Romana in Florence. At the end of the Second World War, he encountered American culture, music and cinema. In that period, while living in Rome, he started dealing with cinematographic posters. He can boast more than 3000 international works for MGM, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Universal, Columbia Pictures among others. Among his most popular posters there are Gone with the wind, Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Because of the cinema crisis, Campeggi returned to Florence. There, he kept on painting in different fields. In his 70-years artistic itinerary one can detect four main currents: cinema, historical characters and great battles, the rocks of Elba and the series of devils.
